GEORGE TERCYZNSKI

George had a Degree in Chemistry in Poland.

Served in the Polish Army

They emigrated to Australia in late 1949 and George was aged 38.

Had a chance to go to Canada where George was assured of a job and a house. Chose Australia because it had a warmer climate than Poland and Canada. The only choice after arriving in Sydney was grape picking or digging drains for the E&W.S.. So they arrived in Barmera and the first job was picking grapes.

Australia was a frontier in those times and I have heard a number of stories from immigrants that our overseas information did not depict the real conditions and arrangements.

George then must have applied for a job at the BCWD in 1950 and was accepted and he worked there until 1957. He had contacted Poland for copies of his qualiications in Chemistry and when the documents duly arrived, they were accreditted by a Professor Jordan of the Adelaide University. George applied for a Laboratory position with the B.H.P. at Whyalla and was successful and they moved to Whyalla in 1958.

George was an avid collector of stamps.
