Whilst in Adelaide employed by TNG he played cricket at the Kensington Cricket Club and was a member of the first eleven with Don Bradman (Later Sir Donald).

Also Sergeant Instructor with the First Australian Armoured Division in Perth, WA.

Following discharge Pen and Clarice moved to Berri and lived with his sister Else and husband Mel Cawse and was employed on Harold Chilton's fruit property until Pen was given a position as a pay clerk at the Winery. He commenced study in accounting for the years 1947 to 1951 and qualified as a Cost Accountant. In 1948 he was appointed as cost clerk, in 1950 was given an additional duty of grape liaison officer to take over from Norm Morrison. In 1951 he was appointed as Cost Accountant at BCWD.

In retirement he worked on the assets register for the amalgamation of Berri Estates and Renmano Wines.
Also performed some duties for Tilley Murphy and Hughes and the BCPU Ltd.

Was Secretary at Annual General Meetings 1954 and 1956.
