Len Maitland

Len's Recollections

Had Clock card No.1. Did not know the circumstance.

Started in 1958 in the cellar and left in 1966 to go Angoves until 1976 and returned to berri and retired in 1987. Remembered Ben Visschedijk.
Herb Gutschke retired on same day as Len. herb worked in the Main Cellar. A name to recall was Johnny Sigas.
Len also learnt the rudiments of coopering with Les Kassebaum. Admitted playing the mouth organ in the empty Block 5 tanks. Told me he played the bagpipes in a 64,000 gallon tank.

Remembered his father Bonny coming back during vintage time to oversee operations in the Main Cellar after his retirement at end of 1973. Check with Ian McKenzie.
Remembers Bonny telling him how they would use opened wheat bags to disperse the carbon dioxide from the skin tanks before the worker entered to throw out the drained skins-either into bins or the traveling belt system..
