Angus Wagenknecht Senior

Monday 3rd March 2003. Chatting with Flora and Bill Buck at 6 Haydon St, Gawler West SA. Selected a range of photos and talked about dates and happenings.
Adolph (Called "Ardie" and also "Angus") and Nora (seen together in this photo) with their children moved to Monash in 1938 or 1939 and Adolph built their home with wheat bag walls whitewashed outside and fine Hessian whitewashed internal walls. Clay floors were later covered with malthoid. Flora remembers them polishing the malthoid with milk to give it a gloss. Their father burnt his own lime and made bricks to replace the bag and Hessian walls. Adolph possibly commenced at the winery in either 1939 or 1940. Was Foreman in the Bond Store when he had to retire in 1949 due to bowel cancer and passed away on 23rd March 1950 aged 54 yrs.

Bill Quinton

Bill Quinton worked under Les with coopering duties outside of vintage time.To unload empty hogsheads from the truck, Goodyear tyres were laid on the ground and the casks rolled of the tray to fall on the tyre. The raised print on the tyre wall would be imprinted on the side of the cask and questions were asked if the Goodyear company was entering the wine industry.
